Smelting high purity 55SiCr automobile suspension spring steel with different refractories

Abstract We performed a laboratory investigation at 1,873 K using MoSi 2 furnace to study the effect of refractories on inclusions in 55SiCr suspension spring steel. Three types crucible materials (Al O 3 , MgO·Al and MgO–CaO) were investigated. The results this indicated that SiO Al not suitable for making By contrast, MgO–CaO was perfect choice producing advantages crucibles smelt steel summarized three aspects as follows: (i) stability quite good; (ii) could act desulfurizer dephosphorizer; (iii) finally, simultaneously remove inclusions.
